Darrell Vance Johnson passed away on November 5, 2022 at the age of 81 in
his home with his daughters by his side. Darrell was born September 22, 1941
in Dillon to Swen Elam and Jane Stallings Johnson. He was an only child and
spent much of his childhood living in Bannack. Darrell served in the Army,
worked for the Army Corps of Engineers on Clark Canyon Reservoir, and
attended MSU before returning to Dillon where he met a California girl new to
town, Linda Kathryn Doty. Darrell and Linda were married September 10,
1965.
Dad was a well-known and respected salesman for Southmont Tractor, Dillon
Implement and then Frontline Ag. He could repair anything and helped many
farmers and ranchers get their equipment running.
He had a love for the outdoors and spent a lot of time with friends and family
fishing, camping, hiking, shooting, snowmobiling and being rock hounds.
Beaverhead County was his home and he knew almost every square inch of
it.
Darrell loved to work on his custom restored, 1940 Ford Coupe. It was his
pride and joy. Darrell and Linda spent many summers traveling to car shows.
Darrell was so proud of his car being featured in the famous “Good Guys”
magazine—and that was before his restoration had been completed.
Although Dad wasn’t much for talking about feelings, he was extremely proud
of his daughters and his grandchildren.
Darrell is preceded in death by both his parents. He is survived by his wife,
Linda, and daughters, Teresa Guinnane (Greg) and Sharon Sawyer (Tracy),
and grandchildren Kaitlyn Sturtz (Tyler Ford), Tessa Sawyer (Isaak Koslosky)
and Turner Sawyer.
There will be a celebration for Darrell’s friends and family in the future. The
family would like to give special thanks to Hospice and Dr. Combs.
