My fishing partner has left me. My father, Don Mitchell passed away at home on Friday, November 13, 2015. Don Mitchell was born May 22, 1931 in Malad Idaho. He joined the US Air Force in 1950 and served during the Korean War. He met Reba Jo Tryon in 1951 and they spent 63 years together. He had four children, Michael Mitchell (Sharon), Kali Ashford, Pamela Lindsey (deceased) and Janet Aker(Alan). After leaving the military he worked for his parents here in Dillon doing ranch work. After his parents sold the ranch he worked for Cottoms. For a period of time he moved his family to Utah where he worked for Thikol Chemical. In 1960 he moved his family back to Dillon where he has lived ever since. He worked highway construction and when you drive from Dillon to Butte or Dillon to Idaho he would be happy to remind you that he helped make those roads available to you. He made many dear friends in Dillon over the years. He played guitar and was known to bust out in song over a toddy. He was a member of Dillon Elks Lodge for 60 years. He was my best friend. He spent 55 years trying to out-fish me. He probably didn’t try all that hard. I will miss him. There will be a funeral reception for Don on Monday, November 23rd at the Dillon Elks Lodge.
