Edith Low Nicoll Boothby passed peacefully into Eternity at 6:11PM MDT on Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Barrett Hospital in Dillon, MT. Mom was born on March 9, 1919 into The Church of England in Glasgow and raised in Dundee, Scotland. She and her Mother and brother came to America in 1926 aboard the then new HMS Transylvania to join her Father who had found work in Bayonne, NJ. Upon arrival, her Father pointed at the Stars and Stripes and told her, "You were born in Scotland. Now you are an American." From that moment, Edith never lost her love for our flag or our country. She classically melted into her adopted culture in Bayonne, succeeded in school and started work as a bookkeeper at F. W. Fitch Company where she met Titus "Sonny" Boothby and accepted a first New Year's Eve date to Times Square in 1938. Theirs was a real life "Lady and the Tramp" story. A 51 year marriage began in 1940 producing two daughters. Sonny advanced at Fitch and its successors, eventually accepting a transfer to management in the Clayton, MO plant in 1952. The family - now including Edith's two parents - moved to a newly built Rock Hill, MO home where Edith remained until Sonny passed away in 1991. She retired as head of bookkeeping for Chicago Title Insurance Company in St. Louis in 1981. Mom lived in a succession of retirement settings in the St. Louis area until she voluntarily gave up driving in 2007 and moved to Millbrae, CA to live by her family. She began living with her daughter and son-in-law when all retired to Dillon, MT in 2008 and she remained under their attentive care until her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband "Sonny", her parents Emma and George Nicoll, her brother Sidney, her sister Alice, and her daughter Dorothy. She is survived by her daughter Alyce and son-in-law Rich Wassall of Dillon, MT; grandsons Randy (Debbie) and Jaime (Nicole) of Kansas City, KS; and Todd (Janis) of Cole Camp, MO; 5 great grand children and numerous nieces and nephews. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a founding member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church in Warson Woods, MO and current member of St. James Episcopal Church in Dillon, MT. She enjoyed knitting, reading, traveling and staying in touch with her family and many friends. Mom had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and is now enjoying her Eternal reward in heaven. We will meet again, but until then she will be missed greatly by the many lives that she touched in her full journey on Earth. Rest gently upon Heaven's wonders, Mom. Our thanks and appreciation go out to everyone who assisted in Mom's medical and home care. We are truly blessed to live amongst so many daily heroes. Special thanks to Drs. Ron Loge and Thomas Murray, the entire staff of Barrett Hospital, Clinic, and Hospice from doctors and nurses to Food Services and Housekeeping; and to our home caregivers Alyssa Eads and Lisa Green. Arrangements have been made by Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon, MT. Edith was a donor to the Montana State University WWAMI Medical Program in Bozeman, MT. A memorial gathering will be scheduled for her at a date to be determined in the St. Louis, MO or Kansas City, KS areas. Donations in Edith's memory may be made to any Alzheimer's Disease charity or Barrett Hospital Foundation's (406-683-6737) Ron Loge Medical Scholarship for local students.
