Ellie Irene Cooksey, 88, of Dillon, Montana, passed away Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at home surrounded by family. Ellie was born April 2, 1935, to Jerry and Alta (Goldsby) Lynch in Dodge City, KS. She was one of four children. She made it through the 8th grade and then had to take care of her mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer. She met Martin Cooksey in a little café, in Hutchison, KS. The couple were married on February 6th, 1957. The couple lived in Hill City, KS until 1963, after finding out that Ellie had a lung disease. Her Dr. told her she would not survive much longer unless she was to move to a dryer climate, so the couple made the decision to move to The Cabbage Patch in Dillon. The family loaded up their car, pulling a trailer, and another trailer with the jeep (that had Amy’s Siamese cat) in tow. Marty bought a barber shop in town, and Ellie worked at Dorthea’s beauty shop. After about 6 months the couple found a house on the hill at the end of Sebree St. She retired from Montana Power and the City of Dillon. She enjoyed living in Montana and spent most of her free time outdoors. She spent much of her time with Marty, cutting wood, riding ATVs, working in her flower gardens.
Ellie is preceded in death by both her parents, all three siblings, and a grandson Justin.
She is survived by her husband Marty, her son Jess of Butte, MT, and daughter Amy of Dillon, Also a granddaughter Tonja, two great granddaughters sister-in-law, Karen Cooksey of KS, and seven nieces and two nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Beehive Hospice or the food bank in Ellie’s name.
