It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Gary Michael Mooney at the age of 70 in Glendale, AZ in the presence of his sons. Gary was born on March 11, 1952, in Dillon, MT to the late Daniel L. Mooney and Patricia J. Markell.
Gary went to various schools in Montana and attended Beaverhead High School. He later enlisted in the Montana Army National Guard in 1971 and served our country for 12 years. He moved to Helena, MT in 1972 and worked construction for Skinner Enterprises before starting his own construction company 4 Moons and purchasing Algra’s RV Repair shop. In 1997 Gary moved to Arizona and worked as an estimator for the paving industry. Cholla Pavement Maintenance was his employer until the time of his passing. We are thankful to the owner Dewayne as he was very good and supportive to Gary during the last challenging months.
Gary had a love of dirt track racing and being on the track with either his mini sprint or mod lite. He was a true advocate and involved in bringing mini sprints to Montana and modLite’s to Arizona for affordable racing. His race team was Play Hard Racing spoke for itself. Gary enjoyed Nascar and vintage car shows with his restored 64 Barracuda he built from the ground up.
Gary is survived by his sons Gary and wife (Kristi) Mooney and Geoff Mooney, Grandson Damon Mooney, Brother William (Bill) Mooney, Half Siblings Mike Mooney, DaNiel Reynolds, Debbie Miller Dailey, and Chris Alberta along with numerous nieces and nephews. For those who would like to join the interment it will take place Friday, June 30, 2023, at 1pm at Mountain View Cemetery, Dillon, MT. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, July 1, 2023, at 1pm at the Dillon Elks Lodge, 27 E. Central St.
Gary will be remembered for his sense of humor, smile, laughter, signature chicken wings and always ready for the next fun ticket.
