Gloria Luella Vessey of Dillon died October 2, 2020. She was 94 years old. Gloria was born on February 20, 1926, in Landa, North Dakota to Carl Johan Nordquist and Alice Carna Peterson Nordquist, both Swedish immigrants. Gloria was very proud of her Swedish heritage. She was the youngest of six daughters. At an early age they left the farm in North Dakota and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota. When she was 19 years old she attended a country dance with a young man who had invited another friend, Robert Vessey, to join them because his dad had just died. Gloria and Bob began dating, were engaged on Valentine’s Day and were married July 31, 1946. They lived on the Vessey dairy farm near Hopkins, Minnesota until moving to Montana. Their two daughters, Jo Anne and Linda, were born in Missoula. Eventually they moved to Hyattville, Wyoming where Gloria began her career with the United States Postal Service. She worked at the Hyattville post office and then was appointed postmistress at the Manderson post office. Gloria was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Lewisia Chapter #16 in Basin, Wyoming for many years. Bob and Gloria enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, and going to horse races. She retired shortly after Bob’s death in 1994 and moved to Dillon, Montana to be closer to family and watch all her grandchildren’s activities. She enjoyed all her new friends in Dillon and traveled to many places with them including Europe, Sweden, Hawaii and many other trips in the United States. At the age of 93, she decided she could no longer live alone in her home so she moved to The Legacy Assisted Living where she met many new friends. Gloria is survived by her daughters, Jo Anne Carter (Ron) of Vaughn, Montana, and Linda Lower of Dillon; grandchildren Tressa Blair (Aaron), Cadee Carter, Lee Carter (Lauren), Jarett Lower (Bea), Justin Lower (Danielle) and Kelsey Jansen (JJ); great-grandchildren Tanner Blair (Caitlin), Sierra Vitt (Cody), Treyton Carter (Rileigh), MacKenzie Gordon, Layne Carter, Logan Carter, Lilly Carter, Henry Lower, Everett Lower, Collier Jansen, and Nora Jansen; greatgreat-grandchildren Owen Vitt, Brooks Vitt, and Emery Blair. Family services will be held July 31, 2021, which would have been Bob and Gloria’s 75th wedding anniversary. Gloria’s ashes will be placed with Bob’s at their hunting camp in the Big Horn Mountains above Hyattville, Wyoming.
