Harriet Marie Enderson (VanVynck) Chambers passed away January 11.2025. She was born on a cold and windy day, November 24, 1931.
Harriet was the eldest child of Ellard F and Marie L (Groot) Enderson.
She had two younger siblings Glen Enderson (deceased) and Carol Enderson Berger.
Harriet married John F VanVynck, her high school sweetheart, in 1949.
John died in 1989. Together they had 2 children, Helen Edwards (Dillon, Mt) and John G VanVynck (deceased).
The young family lived the life of Montana Highway construction workers of the times, moving often, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year. Finally they were able to settle for nearly 4 years in each of Butte, Miles City, and Missoula. Many friends were made and left behind along the way.
Upon retiring Harriet and John spent summers in Montana and winters in Yuma, AZ. Those were wonderful years of sunshine, learning to facet, silver smith, knitting clubs, and travel.
After John died in 1989 Harriet moved permanently to Dillon, MT to be near her daughter & family. She was widowed at age 58. Jim McIsaac offered her a job handling the rental aspect of his realty company. They were a team, and when she tried to retire he offered her the job to manage
Bicentennial Apartments instead! A special friendship that continued until her death.
The next year she purchased a home in DIllon and met and married the "last love" of her life. For the next 20 years she and Jim "Brownie" Chambers shared their families, traveled, rode horses, enjoyed the cabin in the Big Hole, and shared endless games of cribbage and sunsets.
Harriet was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was also a onetime city councilman, a member of the Red Hats, and a volunteer at the Bargain Basement.
Harriet's life time passion was sewIng. She made many of her own clothes, sport jackets for husband John, jean quilts for the grand kiddos and let them "pick their own pocket designs", and quilts! Harriet loved quilting as much as she loved to read. She filled the family with quilts and then focused on charity giving of her quilts. Each one was hand tied with love.
