April 24, 1931 – September 21, 2023
Jack Howard passed away on September 21, 2023. Jack was born in Sidney
Montana to Ray and Esther Howard. He graduated from Beaverhead County High
School and lived nearly all his life in Montana.
Jack married Arletta (Leta) Wright at the First Baptist Church on August 19, 1951.
They had three children, Ray, Beth (JR Moore) and Kirk (Hope) all residing in the
Portland Oregon area. Jack and Arletta had three grandchildren, Darla, Cole and
Jordan who also reside in the Portland area.
Jack loved cars and anything that had a motor and went fast. He raced cars and
snowmobiles. Jack was a car salesman by trade. He owned two car dealerships,
College Motors and Howard Motors, in the 60’s and 70’s. He always had a
positive attitude and enjoyed meeting and talking to people. He knew many of
the families in Beaverhead County. Jack had friendships lasting over 60 years and
liked talking with them often.
When Jack and Arletta retired, they spent the next 17 years traveling in their RV
with their dog, Ryder. They enjoyed many winters in Arizona and Nevada.
After the death of his wife in October 2020, Jack moved to Portland to be close to
his children and grandchildren, but Jack missed Montana very much. He loved
Montana history, and he knew every mountain, valley, and river. He was an avid
hunter and greatly respected the land and wildlife of Montana. Montana will
always be his home.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Betty (Nelson), and his wife of
69 years.
He is survived by his sister Verda (Clawson) of Belgrade, his children,
grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In honor of Jack’s wishes no services will be held. He will be cremated before
returning to Montana. Please direct any memorials to Barrett Hospital.
