James Philip Nettik, 84, passed away suddenly on May 27, 2023. He was born on November 5, 1938 in Dillon MT to Michael “Pat” and Hannah (Malesich) Nettik and was the oldest of three children. Jim was a devoted husband to Doris E. (Hayes) Vanover whom he married in November of 1967 and a loving father to Sharon (Vanover) McWilliams, Joyce Vanover and Angela (Nettik) Morse.

Jim spent a fair amount of his childhood out on the Malesich Ranch north of town and up Stone Creek working for his Uncle Scotty. He stated that since he was the oldest of the cousins, he was always left behind at the ranch on weekends to babysit while the adults went to town. Jim graduated from Beaverhead County High School in 1956. He enlisted in the Army in 1961, he was stationed in Hawaii and Thailand until 1963. While serving he was awarded for his incredible sharp shooting ability. After returning he started working for Mooney Trucking, Owen Trucking and for the Beaverhead Country Road Department as the Road Foreman and retired after 32 years with the county.

In his free time, Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and loved to be in the outdoors. He was incredibly proud of his yard and would spend countless hours pulling weeds, taking care of the flowers and the lawn. He planted many trees and had dozens of birdhouses amongst them. Together Jim and Doris enjoyed watching the baby birds grow and leave their nests.
