On February 8, 1958 my parents and older brother celebrated my birth and I was introduced to all as Jeannette Ann Nye, the daughter of Donald and Alma Nye from San Jose, California. Just less than one year later, another baby girl was born, and I became known as the middle sister of the "Three Nye Brats" and the world was changed forever!
So many things in my life seemed of little significance at the time they happened but, then, took on a greater importance as I got older. The memories I am taking with me now are so precious!
Memories ... where do I begin?
Well, I remember mom who sewed my sister and I exquisite dresses for us when we were little. I remember dad always making sure we had a fishing pole in hand and a tent to camp in! He also played a very significant role in my life as I started my life long love of horsemanship!
Grandma Mamie's homemade rolls and playing cribbage; Grandpa Nye sheep shearing; Grandma and Grandpa Stodden taking us boating, camping, and fishing every chance they got; and Grandma Ruth & Phil producing home movies ... mostly of hummingbirds!
As a child, I walked to the old Evergreen Elementary School. Walking across the creek to the 7-Eleven to get a slurpy! My sister and I getting Chatty Kathy's for Christmas!
But, my most memorable childhood event was getting my first horse named Cinders at the age 11 and later, my horse of 32 years Zac at age 14. There were other horses to follow as well.
I remember twirling my baton to the tune of "On to Victory, Beaverhead" in High School as part of the Golden Girls!
I married the man of my dreams on June 18, 1983 and from that day on I was proud to be Mrs. Theodore Ori! Our plan was to have a couple kids and did just that when we were blessed with Johnny and then Dana. Then, along came our little sweetheart, Anne Marie! Seeing these three grow into who they were supposed to be, brought a wonderful sense of meaning to our lives!
I remember planting my beautiful flower garden, moving pipe and haying razor rides with my family, the occasional dip at Elkhorn Hotspirngs, the bowling league, skiing with the kids, becoming a member of the Back Country Horseman, and hiking to the top of Baldy. In my older years, pickleball became a game that I really enjoyed ... yes, that noisy game we would hear across the way as we sat out on the patio in the desert!
Just when I thought I was too old to fall in love again, I became a grandmother, and my three grand-angels stole my heart. Judson, Ira, and Thea have enriched my life more than words can say. They're treasures that are irreplaceable and will go with me wherever my journey takes me. I've always maintained that my greatest treasure's call me Gramzy.
I've been a devoted daughter, a loving wife, a comforting mother, a true and loyal friend, and a spoiling gramzy!
I passed away on February 27, 2025, and I was preceded in death by my father, Donald Nye, father and mother-in-law Dom and Patricia Ori, and niece Marissa Ori. I am survived by my husband, Ted Ori, children Johnny (Kait), Dana (Grace), and Anne Marie (Greg). Also, my three grandchildren Judson, Ira, and Thea. I am also survived by my mother, Alma Nye, brother Danny Nye, and sister Nancy Taylor (Kevin), my brother-in-law's Keith Ori (Sue), Shawn Ori (Lynn), and sister-in-law Robyn Ori English (John). There are also many nieces and nephews that I will cherish forever.
There will be a celebration of life for me sometime this spring/ summer when the flowers are blooming and the butterflies are fluttering. I'll leave you with this... "Please don't cry because I am gone, instead be happy that I was here". Today, I am happy and I am riding away on mv horse!
Love you all forever...
