He was born the 3rd child of 4 to Lee Roy and Norma Grace (Goodrick) Layland on Oct 17th 1955 at the hospital in Montpelier ID. That was the closest hosp. to the ranch Roy was working on in WY. It was a good thing that he was at the hosp. because during the delivery the umbilical cord had become wrapped around his neck, cutting off blood supply and his airway. Not the greatest beginning, but it shows just how tough he was right from the start. He went home to join older brother Gail and older sister Hazel, 4yrs later his younger brother A.Jay came along. Star Valley was his home most of his childhood, growing up with cousins and friends. He tried many different jobs though out his life, from moving water pipes, and more types of ranching work. In construction work he learned how to build houses in every part of how one is fabricate bottom, even laying utilities, to the top, hot tar roofing. Anything in between you can name he had done. I met him when he was driving truck, for a short time. I married Kay (as he went by) back in 1982. We spent 40 years together, raised 3 beautiful women. Being in the city wasn't the way of life Kay enjoyed, so packed up and moved to Dillion, MT. The open spaces was how he had been raised in Star Valley WY. It suited his love of fishing, hunting, and bird watching. He passed away at home with his family close to him, after a short illness. There is so much to say about him, but those whom he was friends with already know the stories. He will always be part of my life, and truly miss seeing his face and hearing his voice."
