Richard (Dick) Otto Gosman passed away peacefully on February 6, 2017 at Legacy Assisted Living. Dick was born in Butte, Montana on February 23, 1925 to Ruth and Frank Gosman. Dick and his brother Bob were raised in Lima. Dick was a World War II veteran, serving in the Marines from 1943 to 1945. He married Gertrude Knox on August 9, 1946. Together, they raised their family and ranched for sixty-three years. In his heart, family was first and then ranching. He loved being on horseback working his cattle. Always more than willing to speak his mind and lend a helping hand, Dick was involved in his community. He was a member of VFW Post 3534 , Montana Cattleman’s Association, RCAlf and OCN (organization for competitive markets). He was a Rifle Club instructor, participated in the Veteran’s Memorial Day Service, and was instrumental in helping build and maintain the Lima swimming pool. Dick served as Water Commissioner on both Sheep Creek and Red Rock River. He was Vice President of the Water Users Irrigation Company for many years. He spent countless hours researching water rights for the Water Users Irrigation Company, as well as many private land owners. Dick taught at Lima High School. His firm but fair hand guided students through math, science, and shop for 25 years. Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude, his parents, and daughter-in-law Carla Gosman. He is survived by his brother, Bob (Barbara); daughter Barbara(Steve); sons Bryan, Evan(Elizabeth);daughter Jeri Ann(Dwight); grandchildren, Brian Crosby (Jordan), Brooke Hanson(Nick), Brandon(Jeana), Jessie Ponce(Joe), Jake Gosman, Chris Gosman(Kerri), Ali Tope (Rob), Dallas Gosselin, Casey Gosselin, Cameron Gosselin; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services will be held at Lima Community Church on Saturday, February 11th at 2:00p.m. with viewing at 1:00p.m. Interment will follow at the Lima Cemetery. Visitation will be at Brundage Funeral Home in Dillon on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 7 to 9 pm. Memorials may be made in Dick’s memory to Red Rock Veteran’s Scholarship, Lima Gun Club Scholarship, Lima Swimming Pool, or charity of choice. Dick will be remembered for his keen sense of humor, brilliant smile, integrity, and his willingness to stand up for his beliefs.
