Richard Edgar Knapp, born on December 9, 1929, in Melstone, Montana, to Edgar (Buster) and Frances Knapp, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024, at the age of 94 in Dillon, Montana.
The oldest of four siblings, Richard was raised on the Knapp Ranch in Melstone, where he developed a love for ranching and the outdoors. He later joined the U.S. Army, where he trained soldiers for combat during the Korean War. Upon his return, Richard married Laura Bowen (later divorced), and together they built a family, raising eight children.
A lifelong rancher and sheep herder, Richard dedicated his life to hard work, family, and the Montana way of life.
Richard is survived by his sister Ruth Coulter and his children; sons, Brent Knapp, Ken Knapp, and Floyd Knapp and daughters, Debra Wolffersdorf, Frances Krey, Linda (Dave) Talbott, and Laurae (Steve) Clark.
He is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought him immense joy.
Richard was preceded in death by sister, Jessie Ryan, brother, Roger Knapp, his son, Michael Knapp, and his granddaughter, Nicci Martin.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024, 10:00 am at the Cowboy Church in Dillon, Montana. Interment will follow at the Veteran's Cemetery in Dillon, Montana.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his caregivers and doctors for their dedication and support over the past several years.
Richard will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
