Surrounded by her loving family, Rose Marie Smith passed in peace on November 26, 2018 at Barrett Hospital in Dillon, MT at the age of 82. She was an amazing wife, daughter, mom, grandmother and great grandmother who was loved deeply and will be cherished always. She was born on October 21, 1936 in Kokuk County, Iowa to Harold and Beatrice Myers. While growing up her father’s job required constant relocating across the United States. Hawaii, Alaska and Maine are the only states she never called home. She graduated from Blackfoot High School in Idaho in 1954. After graduation, she moved to Bismarck, ND and it was during this time she met the love of her life, Keith Smith. They were married on December 19, 1955. While living in Butte, MT where Keith worked in the mines, Rose dedicated her time raising their three beautiful children, Judy, Bobby and Mark. In 1973 Keith and Rose along with their three children moved to their ranch near the big city of Whitehall, MT. As a family, they spent most of their time traveling to rodeos and county fairs. Rose took up a deep passion caring for her garden, farm animals and racing horses at their Smith Quarter Horse Ranch. If you did happen to catch Rose indoors, chances are you would find her dedicated to her quilting and leatherwork, passions that were often showcased and gifted to many over the years. Each and every one of her kids, grandchildren and great grandbabies have a quilt to call their own. Frequent visits from her grandchildren, who found it easy to entertain their playful curiosities on the ranch, meant that Grandpa Keith and Grandma Rose had to always stay on their toes! The Smith Family ranch was also where Rose maintained her garden with immaculate attention, the benefits of which allowed her to stock their pantry top-to-bottom with canned goods. After the loss of her husband Keith in 2011, Rose continued to dedicate every waking minute to the ranch before making the decision to move to Dillon to be closer to her family. While in Dillon, she was able to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow, as they became an enormous part of her everyday life. Our Saviors Lutheran Church became a very active part of her life as she continued to strengthen her faith and love for the church family. The last few days of Rose’s life was spent with her family and close friends over the Thanksgiving holiday. It was fulfilled with lasting memories of Grandma’s famous cherry dessert and the yearly tradition of making povitica, a family favorite. The loved ones who cleared her path are her parents Harold and Beatrice Myers, the love of her life Keith Smith, their son Mark Smith and granddaughter Dallice Smith. The loved ones left to follow her path include her daughter Judy Tash, her son Bobby Smith, grandchildren Aaron (Kami) Tash, Kyle (Jayme) Tash, Kacee (Dallas) Mock and Colt Smith. She has nine great-grandchildren: Frankie / Juliana Smith, Tess / Taytum Tash, Brooks / Daxton / Addyson Mock, and Ladaley / Mayce Tash. In Lieu of flowers we ask that you please send memorials to Our Saviors Lutheran Church at 715 East Bannack Street Dillon, MT 59725.
