During his early childhood his family moved to Dillon, where Ross and his two other brothers Alvin and Melvin went to school. Ross moved to Butte, MT to go to college and work in the mine with his father. Shortly after graduation the war broke out, so Ross and several of his friends went and joined the Army. When he returned from the war, Ross worked for the Corp of Engineers at Bonneville Dam. In March of 1951, he married Beverly Prather, and of this union, he had 2 children, John and Jean. The couple separated in 1970. In 1971 Ross met his current wife Nancy Ollendorf, in White Salmon, WA, and the couple married March 2, 1972. Nancy brought to this marriage 4 children. John was working as a draftsman of the Corp of Engineers and the couple lived in employee housing at Bonneville Dam. Ross and his family moved to Laurin, MT in the early 80’s. During this time he and his new wife took trips around the Grasshopper Valley, where he would show her all the things he loved about Montana. Ross enjoyed the outdoors, loved going to airshows, and loved flying so much that he built his own gyrocopter.

Ross is preceded in death by both parents, both brothers, a daughter (Amanda), and a grandson (Christopher).

He is survived by Nancy, his wife of 51 years, children; John(Sherry) Stocker of Stevenson, WA, Jean Thrasher of Cottage Grove, OR, Karen Hinkle of Pendleton, OR, Gordon(Leann) Ollendorf of Dillon, MT, and Louise(Randy) Provus of Williston, ND.
