Vivian Womack

VIVIAN M WOMACK Vivian Marie Love Womack died in Dillon, Montana yesterday after a brief illness. Vivian was 97 years old and for the last 5 years was a resident of the Legacy Assisted Living Center in Dillon. She was very happy the last years of her life and her family is so appreciative of the incredible environment that Kevin Button and his team have created for all of their residents of the Legacy. Vivian was born in Bozeman, Montana on June 9, 1921. She graduated from Gallatin County High School where she ran track and according to Viv won many races and medals. She attended Eastern Montana College and graduated with a degree in elementary education. She married John James Womack in November 1942. She and her husband had four boys. James, Jon, Joe and Jack. They lived in Dillon where her husband was the Superintendent of the Dillon Schools. In 1969 she and her family moved to Helena when her husband was appointed The Adjutant General for the Montana National Guard. They lived there for the next 14 years before retiring to Dillon in 1982. She operated 2 businesses in Helena. She and her partner started one of the first private kindergarten schools in 1972. After kindergarten was added to the public schools there she went into the estate sale business which she operated until her retirement to Dillon. Vivian was a happy positive person her entire life. She faced the worst that life can offer a Mom when she lost 2 of her boys. Jon died of a brain tumor at the age of 24 in 1970. Later, Son Joe died of complications from type 1 diabetes in 2000. Through it all Vivian remained strong and had many friends and enjoyed being around people. She refused to get down and she pulled others along in any crises. She loved living in downtown Dillon so she could walk to KINGS and the IGA store. She was very proud of her membership in the Dillon chapter of PEO and helped start the yearly Festival of Trees in Dillon. She loved her time in Helena especially at her summer home at Canyon Ferry lake where she always entertained her friends and family. Her husband Major General John J Womack died on Veterans Day of 2011 from complications of a stroke. 2 years later Vivian moved into the Legacy Home. Vivian is survived by her sons, James of Dillon. Jack and his wife Kathy of Atlanta. Grandchildren: Tracey in Helena, Jon-(Kimberley) in Dillon, Jeff and Wyatt in Nashville, Tennessee, Dillon in Seattle, Jennifer in Bozeman, Carson-(Alayna) in Macon, Georgia, Kylie and Alexa in Birmingham, Alabama and Great granddaughter Lacey in Dillon and her dear friend former daughter in law Brenda Womack of Dillon. Vivian did not wish to have any services. She always helped people with her time and her money but never talked about it. She took in many people over her life and always saw the good in all people.
